Just as we were about to get the spaghetti ready for 50 people, and a showing of The Gods Must Be Crazy, the power went out (on our block only). It was an hour and a half before the power company got it all settled, but we served our meal with candles and flashlights, anyway. After the lights came on, a number of people begged me to show the movie, even though it was late, so I caved in. It was a lot of fun.
Somehow, I think that possibly the electricity was objecting to me playing "Sunshine Superman". I was just trying to change it! Sheesh, no patience!
It all reminded me so much of time I spent in Calcutta. The more time I am among the poor in the U.S., the more I feel like we are really a hidden third world country.
