With my book group, decided on a line-up for the coming year (fall to fall):
April: The Thing Around Your Neck by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
May: Arrow of God by Chinua Achebe
I'm pretty happy with our choices!
I read Adichie's first novel, Purple Hibiscus last year, and was totally taken by it. Must remember it for the upcoming top 100. But is there a reason why this order for these two? Because I've read that Adichie is something of a successor to Achebe, so reading Arrow of God first might give better context (or something). Just a thought.
We didn't think too much about the order in that regard, I guess, although we have all read Achebe's
Things Fall Apart so we might have some sense of why Adichie is called Achebe's successor.
Actually though, it's been years since I've read
TFA, so I'd definitely be interested in switching up the order. I'll offer your suggestion to our group.
I have a Remains of the Day lunch box.
I want one! (I need it to go along with my
Dinner with Andre action figures.)
