Top 5 Alternate Endings
« on: May 18, 2010, 08:22:24 PM »
Again, not really a Top 5 but more of a collector's thread.
Eligible is anything from Director's Cuts to rumors or scripts.

I'll start with a famous one:

Layer Cake had a interesting alternative ending, but I prefer the one chosen.

Probably Blade Runner.

I was just watching the making-of doc on Alien3 and that whole movie would have been cool, but the ending of the wooden planet version sounded pretty awesome.

I still think the wooden planet is one of the stupidest ideas I've heard for a movie. I'm glad they made it the way they did.

I think it could have worked. There was some stuff during that part that was strange (the whole toilet scene sounded way sillier than anything that Aliens did, which is saying something), but I think it would have been a cool way to go. Fincher still made it work, but it could have been better.

Candidate for worst alternate ending: THE DESCENT. The US version is utterly run-of-the-mill. The UK version (director's cut) is dark, brooding and utterly in keeping with the rest of this terrific film...

28 Days Later has a very bleak alternate ending on the DVD where Cillian Murphy's character dies in the hospital and the others simply walk out of the ward and away down the empty corridoor while the door swings silently shut behind them...

Suggestion for alternate ending: about 2 minutes into Mamma Mia there is an enormous earthquake that shifts tectonic plates miles beneath the island, causing it to be engulfed by the sea, killing the entire cast...

natural born killers - the alternate ending makes use of the spooky guy who appears without explanation throughout the movie.
