The oscars are fun and always interesting, I just wish things weren't so cut and dry. Every single one of the acting nominations were picked easily beforehand, I just want something new Oscar! Give A Serious Man best picture!

I was definitely hoping for some crazy upset somewhere, and was disappointed when it didn't come. They are pretty cut & dry.

Some years there are crazy upsets, some years there aren't.   That's part of the whole Oscar drama.

Yesterday had me thinking if that show even needs a host.

I thought Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin did a good job. I especially liked the Paranormal Activity skit.

I used to enjoy Billy Crystal hosting it.  He could poke a little fun, play around but also had a high level of respect for Hollywood history that came from knowing it, not just idolizing classic actors & directors because they were old.  I think Neil Patrick Harris could pull off that balance.

Neil Patrick Harris could actually make a whole career out of awards program hosting, now that I think about it.  He's really good at it.

Michael Haneke would disagree.

In regards to James Cameron they got it exactly right.  He got best director and best picture for Titanic, which was miles better than Avatar storywise, and which also represented a long time investment and pushing the cutting edge of technology.

James' invention of the new camera technology was awarded with a cinematography Oscar.

And I'm guessing some acknowledgment at that film-technology banquet that they shunned during the ceremony.
