Yeah. I sense another patented ferris-gone-awol upcoming.  Maybe I'll poke my head back in around Filmspot time.  I'm just not watching a ton of films lately (I think I'm up to 5 for the year now) so I'm just not finding a lot to contribute...

Totally. :)

If I'm not already interested in the movie being discussed, I skip the review portion of the Filmspotting podcast.  I love that they timecode all the segments in the description, I wish more podcasts did this.

Another confession: I haven't read any of your guys' reviews for Tree of Life (although I did listen to Matt & Adam's discussion) because I want to go into with as few preconceptions as possible.

I never read any review of a movie I haven't seen.

I actually prefer reading reviews of films I haven't seen--especially festival entries and new releases.

(But then, I'm weird. I also like spoilers.)

I also write reviews of most things I see so I don't want other people's words in my mind when I go to write a movie review.

I'll read a paragraph or two of a review if I haven't seen the film. If it seems like one I want to see I'll stop and come back after I see it.

For a film I haven't seen what I care about is:
Who directed it?
Who are the stars?
What is the general premise?
Is it good?

But most reviews go into more detail about themes and stuff that I simply cannot gain much from without having seen the film. This is what irks me about people who don't use ratings for their films. If I haven't seen the film, they are making it way too difficult for me to get what I need out of the review, especially those whose reviewing style is such that you can't even tell if they liked it anyway. I can get what I need a lot more quickly from imdb and rottentomatoes combined with brief review shows like Kermode and At The Movies. This is one reason why I've essentially stopped listening to Filmspotting podcast.
