Thanks for all the religious stories.  Here's 5 quick things about me, although I'm not very interesting.

1) I was raised to believe that the world would end at around the year 2000 and that I'd ascend into heaven with my family.  This might sound wonderful, but I rather liked the world, and didn't know much about heaven.  Another problem with this is that it gave me a rather warped sense of the future.  Even to this day, I am not a very good long term planner.

2) I have a masters degree in political science.

3) I have a chronic back problem and I'm currently off work.  I find it difficult to sit in a theatre for two hours, so I watch most of my movies at home.  I went to see Inception because I didn't want to wait for the DVD.  It was a struggle.

4) I am an atheist and a skeptic.

5) I recently sold my car and have not replaced it.  I take the bus or train.  (Or bicycle when my back allows).  This was not a financial decision or a moral one, but more of a lifestyle choice.
Do you know who I am?

3. When I was about 17 I told my Dad that I did not want to go to church one week. He told me I had the choice - I could either attend willingly or unwillingly. I went willingly........
I like this.  I'm stealing this line.

You are a very bad man!

If you ever feel like writing a really long autobiography Tim, just know that I will rush out to read it. That is just amazingly fascinating.

I believe Steven King has been writing my biography already. I will tell you when it is out. The movie won't be as good though. I left out some of the juicier bits - like the scissor scene......

Wow, great posts, Tim and Mosca.

Thanks  :)

from one ex-mormon to another, welcome to the club Tim.  ;D

It's a hard club to join. But I am glad I am in it!!

(There's no secret handshake for this club is there?)  ;D

Wonderful, Tim!

Dunno about the voice of reason and logic, though. More like paranoia and nihilism, surely!  :P

Nihilists! CINECAST! me. I mean, say what you like about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it's an ethos!

Well... Everybody's doing the brand new dance now, eh?

1. Family stuff: My dad sent me a family tree with both sides of my family on it last week. Of the 350 ancestors we know of who were alive at the time of the Revolutionary War, 349 were already living in America. This means that I am inevitably related to some fairly famous figures from American history, such as being a direct descendant of Gen. Stonewall Jackson. I consider myself ethnically Appalachian, and if someone wants to get in a fight with me, saying something ignorant about West Virginia is a pretty good way to go about it.

2. I have no recollection of not being able to read music. Until the age of nine, I attended a music academy 4 days a week and spent much of each year preparing for and attending piano competitions. They gave out trophies for 1st-9th place, and my goal was to get one of each because they were different colors.

3. I was raised Methodist, and my family is pretty religious. But I couldn't stick it. Becoming an atheist was really difficult, since all of my family functions are church-oriented. It's something I keep secret from almost my entire family because I don't want them being fearful for me and praying for me. I replaced God with Ted Leo (see avatar), and it's been working out pretty well.

4. I can't go into big stores with fluorescent lighting. Several years ago, I actually had 2 severe breakdowns in a Wal-Mart, and then there was the Great IKEA Incident of 2008, in which I got so freaked out by the prospect of owning a piece of furniture that wouldn't fit in my car, I sat down and started crying in the middle of the floor, and my friends had to talk me down.

5. I'm thinking about moving to Toronto for love. I'll keep you posted.

Does my questioning the validity of the West Virginia "Mountaineers" on account of the fact that the Appalachians are more like hills count as something ignorant about West Virginia? /finishes writing this from his secure bunker under the Rocky Mountains...a real mountain range. Though given where you are now I will say the Cascades are a damn impressive mountain range too.

I think this is brilliant! We're doing our family tree so I appreciate your heritage...
