The reviewer should be (publicly) embarrassed.
« on: October 24, 2009, 11:54:16 PM »
I wondered if any of you could dig up a remark by a critic more astonishingly humiliating than this, by John D. Kirwan of the National Review - 8/13/1968:
"2001 was conceived in wonder and emerged deformed; it is the thalidomide baby of the cinema."

Wow.

Cúu, ma chin áaje.
In short, as a snow-drift is formed where there is a lull in the wind, so, one would say, where there is a lull of truth, an institution springs up. But the truth blows right on over it, nevertheless, and at length blows it down.

I was just kinda stunned that he suggested Tender Mercies as an alternative.  Tender Mercies?!   Simon was obviously out of touch with the current generation.

He puts down Star Wars by also putting down the art of animation and the work of Walt Disney. What a jerk.

what it seems like he is doing is dismissing an entire genre which is just wrong and unforgivable.

Here's 19 minutes of the topic title being fulfilled.

Many here have probably heard this already.
