High Fidelity.
This film's reputation precedes it. We all know the "desert island all time top 5" thing but that isn't all this has going for it (though it is probably the most memorable). What this film really has is a heart, of sorts, and I liked that a lot. I know people like Rob and I've probably done some of the same stuff he's done.
This movie is about music but it can pretty easily translate to our preferred medium, that of the moving pictures. "...I agreed that what really matters is what you like, not what you are like... Books, records, films - these things matter. Call me shallow but it's the CINECAST!in' truth, and by this measure I was having one of the best dates of my life." I can feel that line (even if I don't entirely agree). It's a superbly written film.
I was reminded of the MPDG conversation we were having over in that poll with the character of Charlie. She's the coolest person in Rob's memories but when he sees her again he realizes that he edited everything that didn't fit his ideal out. I think that's what a MPDG is, really. It was a great little moment.
Also, Jack Black is really funny. I always liked him and he was quite fun to watch sing that song at the end (I don't want to spoil it for anybody like me who hasn't seen it yet).
Anyways, this was an enjoyable dictation, Clovis. I'm sure I would have gotten around to it sometime but I'm glad you made me do it sooner rather than later.
B+.
