One Good Thing. One Bad Thing.
« on: November 20, 2009, 11:24:28 AM »
In this game, to gain control of the thread you have to make 1 positive comment and 1 negative comment about the cinematic subject presented in the previous post.  The subject can be a movie, genre, actor, director, editor etc.

For example, if I came in and saw neo-realism I could post...

POSITIVE: I applaud the filmmakers ability to present a believable reality while telling a compelling story.

NEGATIVE: Often contains scenes and moments where little to nothing happens, which can be quite dull.

So it's a game AND a thread to throw out some strong opinions.

I'll start it off with..

Steven Spielberg

Good: Incredible filmmaking

Bad: Doesn't take chances directing-wise and casting-wise often for someone with so much clout

So do I put up a new subject?

So do I put up a new subject?

Yes.  As long as you answer both, the thread is yours.

Also, I disagree with your "Bad" here. Only partly disagree, but still. I'd say almost his entire output over the last decade was one big taking of chances.

Key word: often.  And I was talking about his whole career.

Good:

His use of editing is ahead of pretty much everyone. He's one of the few filmmakers out there that I think really has cinema in his blood.

Bad:

Gangs Of New York.

Good start, 1SO, since nothing about Spielberg is good.

Not even two executive producer credits on Band of Brothers, choosing to work with Kaminski, or technical skill in editing?  Nothing?  I mean I'm not a big fan of the guy, but...
