General/Random Discussion and Thoughts (TV & Sports)
« on: November 28, 2009, 04:27:51 PM »
The humor of The Wire is severely underrated and overlooked.  Just afraid that talk of how serious the series often is will scare people away.  It's not The Corner.

I agree, it is often very funny.

BTW, is The Corner good? I liked the book, but the miniseries seemed kind of hammy.

I agree The Wire is very funny at times. It's pretty much perfection in every way. Name a topic and it perfected it. It's really that simple.

It's good with some first-rate moments.  It's not hammy, but the storytelling device is corny.  If it weren't for that and Sean Nelson, I'd have given it an A-.  The material is too pressing (and the treatment of the characters is humane) for me to give it anything below a B.

Funny you guys should be talking about it thats exactly what I am reading right now (though with my schedule right now I'll be luck to finish it by the new year). I love love love love love love love (greatest tv series ever!!!) The Wire but have not yet seen The Corner. Have you guys read Homicide? What an amazing book (if you like The Corner especially). If you have read both, which is better in your opinion?

Did you know that the same guy created V, The Incredible Hulk, Alien Nation, and The Bionic Woman?  I didn't.

More input!

(To his credit, he didn't write it.)
