Oh yeah, it's the internet.
And who am I to ignore that!
There Will Be Blood is a film I love for it's absurdist black comedy(definitely in my taste) and it's risk-taking aesthetic form(PTA is only matched by Lars von Trier in terms of ambition and risk-taking amongst today's filmmakers) but interestingly enough, No Country is the one that gets even better upon repeat viewings. My level of enthusiasm stays the same after rewatches of There Will Be Blood, which is to say "OMG AWESOME! ONE OF THE BEST EVA!!!", and that's a compliment, but No Country grows and gets under my skin with it's subtle character actions, movements, aesthetic progression. The Coen Brothers said their biggest influnce for No Country was Bresson, and I can see it. With every sawing of tentpoles, picking of wounds, taping of gun, sipping of coffee, with it's observation of the seemingly minute process of life, The Coens help reinvent what can be done with the Neo-Western, and of the crime film itself.
But of course, ask me tomorrow...
