Spotlight remains my most baffling recent (5-10 years) blindspot. Perhaps I'll wear it as a badge, but really I should just go and watch it.

While I'd probably have taken The Martain over Spotlight that year, Spotlight has really endured and grown for me. It's a strange film to be passionate about. The subject matter doesn't make it sound like a great one for repeat viewing, but I do find myself coming back to it regularly nevertheless. There aren't any great lines, maybe not any great scenes either really... not the sort you'll see on any lists anyways. But it has a good story to tell, and good storytelling. It has good characters and good actors playing those characters. "Best Picture" made me skeptical. Particularly following the previous years winner, which I didn't care for at all (Birdman). Going back through the years there's only a few films I agree have earned that title in a given year, and Spotlight might not be one of them... but it is definitely one of the best films to ever win imo.

Given the newest one is 65+ years old all of these should be in public domain and easy to stream for free, but they aren’t and aren’t.
Thanks, Disney!

Same here. Have you watched Alex Gibney's Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence in the House of God? If you liked Spotlight, this one really will shock you.

The Life of Emile Zola (meh)

It's worth it to watch Paul Muni's performance and if you don't know the history of the "Dreyfus Affair".

I'm quite familiar. I know it has a decent reputation, but I know it's going to irk me to see the Dreyfus Affair played out in English.

Hmm, either I need to catchup on Greenbook or remove my vote and redo this?  Can’t I just Edit my vote?

I don't recall ever hearing about this one. I will keep an eye out for it.
