I liked what they did with him. I like that as epic and faithful the Olmsted were, they did understand that a good adaptation is allowed to change things

Didn't care myself, it's a different medium, so they didn't do anything to him because he's not the same character from the books.

Off the top of my head I can't remember what was added in the Extended Edition, so I'm just going with the theatrical version of Fellowship.  It was long enough anyway.

The Extended Edition added a lot. One of the more significant elements was the gift giving by Galadriel.
