Which Lord of The Rings? - Now that the dust has settled.
« on: December 10, 2009, 11:10:42 AM »
Decade Top 10 lists are appearing and it seems that Fellowship is now regarded as the best in the series.  I remember when it opened, I was most blown away by Return of the King and it's battle scenes that are bigger than Epic.  (They make the awesome Helms Deep skirmish look small.)
But I think ROTK has suffered the most over time, mainly from the simple eagle escape that could have saved them all a lot of time and constant jokes about it's endless conclusion.
I definitely like Fellowship more now than I did when it was released, but it's The Two Towers - Extended Cut that I feel is the real high point of the series.
But that may change (which is why I'm allowing us to change our votes).
So now that there's been some time and distance, which do you feel best exemplifies Peter Jackson's achievement?

I don't think any sane person would pick a non-extended film.

My pick was The Two Towers.

I need to buy/see the extended cut films. Only own the first one Extended and have never watched it. These on Blu-Ray? I may buy them and do this over Christmas. Maybe not though, there are other films I haven't seen that I should probably watch instead.

I'm not surprised.  Fellowship was my favorite from the start.

Two Towers is my least favorite.  The Helm's Deep sequence is fabulous,  but it's fabulous at the expense of ROTK and other things.  Peter Jackson was surprised that this movie did well; he admits he rushed it because he was already working on Return of the King.

Only the non-extended cuts are on the Blu. Which is dumb.

Any plans on bringing the extended ones to Blu-Ray. Unless I can find cheap DVDs of the Extended ones there is no way I'm purchasing them.

Return-Extended.

A close second for me.  I even love all of the "endings".  Why do people complain about them..?  Meh.  Philistines.
