yeah, i think that is the only reason this film will get watched by cinephile types - the cinematography works wonderfully/hauntingly with the (based on a true) story. the acting by Bello, Patric, and Sewell is also all very good. that said, this is one film that i wouldn't recommend to just anyone. i think Clovis is open to difficult material, and the discussion we had around (female) sexuality with
Antichrist will make this an interesting comparative. Bellow's character is
a submissive that was sexually abused as a child. the character understands this abuse as something she wanted and appreciated. this film is one of the most disturbing and challenging i have experienced, but also quite beautiful.
