Oh hell yes!
The long opening scene between Finney and Byrne from Miller's Crossing right there at the start of The Glass Key but with politics replacing gambling as the theme. A statement between two hard men followed by a stare to make sure the other guy understands what's being said to him, about 3 pages in! Most authors couldn't attempt something like that so quickly in a book.'Lend me some money' 'Sure how much?' 'Two hundred' Hands it over without a word. I drool. Use of the word Yegg!!
You have to be reading Hammett in Noir-vember.

I've read the first two stories in this book and they're both fantastic. The first is a story about a purse that contains an entire village where time moves slower than the world outside it, but is really about the loss of a beloved family member and friend. The second is a story about a pair of convenience store clerks whose store lies on the road between the living and the dead and America and Canada, but is really about a relationship that could never get started. It's also available for free as an e-book, and that's the most awesome part of all.

The Tale of Constantinople by Nestor-Iskander

This is the last academic book I have to read this quarter. Lucky me it is short, so I figure I might actually read it instead of make up my book review.

Don't let oad know I said that.

Are you enjoying it? I think Det Steve Carella is an enigmatic character. Why, my Kev could play him!  :-*
And Cotton Hawes, with the white streak in his red hair.

That reminds me of a Lee Mack joke, from his show at Hammersmith Apollo.
I can't tell it all, but the punch line was she's got ginger hair, whatever effing room she's in. You'll just have to work the rest out for yourself. He was funny, but I've seen him funnier...
