Just re-watched The Hateful Eight, this time the extended edition.  If is pretty much a one-room mystery with multiple detectives, but Sam Jackson as the lead.  The dialogue is fine, but it feels too spot-on for me.  I mean, the best dialogue in Reservoir Dogs is about tipping the best in Pulp Fiction (arguably) is about the Big Mac in France.  There is always side dialogue that introduces personalities.  Here, it all feels so directly about the backstory.  Which means that the whole is a big puzzle, and while it is an enjoyable puzzle, it doesn’t have the variety or interest that early Tarantino had.   A good romp, and I like the pacing of the extended version, but there is nothing matching the intensity of Inglorius Basterds or his first two films, no matter how much he tries.

3.5/5

1 - Jackie Brown
2 - Reservoir Dogs

3 - Pulp Fiction
4 - The Hateful Eight

5 - Kill Bill 1
6 - Kill Bill 2

7 - Django Unchained
8 - Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

9 - Inglourious Basterds

havn't seen Deathproof.

Jackie Brown is his best film because it's the one which actually has a heart. Reservoir Dogs is close second because the substance still outweighs the style. Pulp Fiction ditto. Kill Bill's ok.

I've had a huge turnaround on Inglourious Basterds. Loved it when it first came out, re-watched it a few weeks ago and, two great scenes aside (no points for guessing which ones, but WHERE'S MIKE MYERS'S OSCAR?!!!!) I think I hated it.

"What should have been an enjoyable 90 minutes of nubile, high-school flesh meeting a frenzy of blood-caked blades, becomes instead an exploitational and complex parable of the conflicting demands of agrarianism and artistry. I voted a miss."

People are starting to upload anything they find from Norm MacDonald onto YouTube. I just found this gem of an impression by Norm of Tarantino. Man, does he ever nail it!
