Saw Neko Case in Denver last weekend. Unfortunately, the confluence of various things meant that by the time she came on stage, I had been awake for 21 hours. She & the band were really good, but I may not have been in the best space to appreciate it.

Joey & John from Calexico opened, though (yes, as a two-piece). Kicked ass. Great version of "Two Silver Trees," among others.

It was a great show, but won't go on my best-ever list.

No offense, but I can't imagine why you'd want to see them without her.

I had no idea.  Two times were at festivals where she wasn't present and the third was when they were opening for Belle & Sebastian.

Fair enough, then.

When I saw The New Pornographers they didn't have Neko with them, but they were still awesome. A C Newman's neice from Immaculate Machine (which is an excellent band) filled in as she has been doing and did a great job.

Yeah, she was adequate, but when they did a Neko song, the difference was glaring.

Yeah, it didn't detract from the concert fir me though. I think they tried to play less of her songs on purpose though.

Then again, I am not a fan of Neko's solo stuff, but love her New Pornographers stuff like "The Laws Have Changed"

Robert Randolph & The Family Band (June 28, 2009; Kettering, OH) -

Ridiculous show. Easily the most fun I have had at a concert in my life. The place was a party. There isn't much I can do to describe it other than to say that they are the epitome of a 'live' band. To listen to them on record is one thing, but to see them live was something altogether different and amazing. Third row seats were nice too!

This is usually about past concerts, but about 12 hours ago, via Roddy Bottum's twitter, I got a date for Faith No More.

"BUENOS AIRES! Club Ciudad - November 1 = Tix on Sale June 29. Really excited about this one... stay tuned for more South American dates."

Not thrilled about it being on a Sunday, as I'll have to figure out a way to get it off, but still... Faith No More.  Awesome.
