I went to Moulin Rouge seeking air conditioning and with no interest in the film, but I had a blast with it. I haven't seen it in ages but I thought it was great at the time.

So glad to see Moulin Rogue stayed high on your list, I love that film.

My experience with Moulin Rouge was unusual in that the first time I watched it I didn't get its music video sensibility at all and disliked it but then watched it again and liked it and then watched it again and loved it and have loved it every time sense. It is really touching and I think Ewan McGregor doesn't get enough credit for his performance in it. Perhaps second only to Once, this is the musical that had me singing along, even when the film isn't playing.

Best of the 00s: Best Scenes 11-100
« Reply #574 on: April 01, 2010, 10:38:24 AM »
I never made an official list of my favorite scenes of the year, and perhaps I should.  This would definitely be in my Top 10, and it honestly may be my #1.

So I made a preliminary list.  Here are my 10 favorite scenes of the decade, so far.

10. Zatoichi - Festival Finale
9. The Bourne Ultimatum - Waterloo Station
8. The Dark Knight - Prisoner Transfer
7. Monsters Inc. - Door Room
6. Ratatouille - Big Night with Anton Ego
5. Closer - Owen and Portman engage in a little 'honestly'
4. Up - Married Life Montage
3. Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers - Buildup to Helm's Deep
2. Mulholland Drive - Club Silencio
1. Moulin Rouge - El Tango De Roxanne

I am still moving titles around as I watch them, so this is not my Top 10.

Stay tuned for posts on...

Almost Famous: Untitled - The Bootleg Cut
City of God
Erin Brockovich
Finding Nemo
The Incredibles
Kill Bill Vol. 1
Kingdom of Heaven: Director's Cut

Very much looking forward to 6 or 7 of those. Maybe you can convince me to see the rest.

Glad you remembered Monsters Inc.  There is a lot of cleverness in this movie and that scene is a great action scene.  And I usually get bored during action scenes.  The prisoner transfer was pretty great too.
