Jesus is magic.

You're not going to link to Silverman on that?

It is on Netflix Instant :)

Haha funny story, I just watched this on Netflix instant.

Silverman is a strange one. Her stand-up is actually really funny, but her show isn't very funny (to me) at all.

I get if you don't like her persona on the show, because it's pretty obnoxious but all the supporting players are so good. Apparently I'm one of the only people that was still watching the last season.

Good point. I should have specified that I do enjoy Brian Posehn's character and a few others, but Silverman on that show is just not my cup of tea.

I saw Sebastian Maniscalco this weekend, he was one of the comics on Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Tour.  Really funny, enjoyed it a lot.

nice - he's the funniest guy in that flick.  We're gonna roll like freshmen and see Tosh in a few weeks - looks to be like 14 people going so far.

Doug Stanhope. Best comedian I've seen in years. In one or two of the reviews i've read of his show he get's compared to Bill Hicks. Except, IMO, he has better delivery and is funnier. He's definitely not for everyone ("the funny thing about child porn"/"abortion is green" etc...), but if you're sick to death of the Michael McCintyre's of this world (UK stand-up reference - "Have you ever noticed how many people are reading at train stations????!?!!!?!?" *Audience howls with laughter*) then you could do worse.

You can get quite a lot of his stuff on youtube. I particularly recommend 'No Refunds' and 'Deadbeat Hero' both of which are full shows and were, until a few days ago, available on there. I'd post the links but work have youtube blocked.

Enjoy!

I've seen him and he wasn't for me.

I thought he was pretty great on Louie. I'll admit to not liking him for a long time based solely on when he took over the Man Show with Rogan (who I still dislike, except for NewsRadio). I don't think I'd go see Stanhope in person, but I find myself enjoying him when he pops up on a podcast.

WTF, tomorrow: 2nd round.

Stanhope's the best. Don't confuse the character he played on THE MAN SHOW for the real guy: he's a much worse human being. NO REFUNDS is among my favorite stand-up specials. (Is there a thread for that around here? If not, I may have to start one.) I also love those dispatches he did for the BBC. (This one* is probably my favorite.)

Note: I use the term "special" loosely.

Top 10 Stand-Up Specials

10. JIM NORTON: MONSTER RAIN

09. DOUG STANHOPE: NO REFUNDS

08. BILL BURR: LET IT GO

07. PATTON OSWALT: NO REASON TO COMPLAIN

06. EDDIE IZZARD: DRESS TO KILL

05. GEORGE CARLIN: YOU ARE ALL DISEASED

04. LOUIS C.K.: SHAMELESS

03. RICHARD PRYOR LIVE ON THE SUNSET STRIP

02. BILL HICKS: SANE MAN

01. CHRIS ROCK: BRING THE PAIN

(There's a conspicuous lack of Cosby here, and that's because, though I loved his specials as a kid, I haven't seen any of them since.)

You've got Carlin so your list is okay to me.
