Didn't mention this either:

"In 1997, he [Segal] disputed a rumor that "Love Story" was based on the college romance between Al and Tipper Gore. He did acknowledge that he had known Al Gore and his Harvard roommate, actor Tommy Lee Jones, in 1968 and drew on their lives for the central male character of "Love Story," Oliver Barrett IV."

You didn't even have to leave your house to see Fish Tank?
Incorrect. If I could have watched it at home, we would have discussed it.

Didn't you see it at TIFF?

True. I remember you not thinking it was as brilliant as most other people. Maybe a re-watch will change that for you.

That's my thinking. I'd like to see it fresh and not the 9th film in 2 days or whatever it was.

I loved your top 5 lists- particularly Adam's. I would have definitely switched out Brief Encounter in favor of City Lights though and probably His Girl Friday for The Philadelphia Story. I absolutely *loved* the inclusions of Swing Time and Once- those are two of my favorite films. Any time I need a cheering up I can put on "Pick Yourself Up" and it does the trick.

I too loved both of your Top 5's for this episode.  I would add Roman Holiday (would be my #1), The Lady Eve, Singin' in the Rain, and The Shop Around the Corner as well.

Ooh- The Shop Around the Corner. Good call! I'm really looking forward to that entry in the marathon.
