Great write-up, Corndog. I first saw The Graduate about 15 (?) years ago, and I think then I either misread the ending or it just went over my head. Anyway, I liked the film ok then but didn't really see what all the fuss was about. But Uri and I watched it together last year, but both absolutely loved it and the ending is so . . . perfect. I don't know if it's that I'm more of a realist now, now that I've been married for over 10 years and have 3 children and those grand, romantic gestures and statements I thought I was making in my early college years seem pretty thin now - or, if it's just that I can read movies better than I used to - in any case, the movie, with its ambiguous ending, seems brilliant to me now. The Graduate wouldn't have been on my top 100 a couple of years ago, and it certainly is now. So glad you loved it.

Glad you liked it. I love this film despite all the crazy people who tell me it's so very dated.

It's a film from it's time! There's a difference. :)

I mean every shot is iconic, and if it's not, it definitely feels like it should be. Honestly, one of the best looking films I have ever seen, just every single freaking shot seems so perfect. Geez. And to boot, everything else seems just about perfect too.

This is why I love The Graduate also. It looks gorgeous. Nice review, Corndog. It's currently at my #65, between The Thin Man and Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.

I need to start a "Rewatching Classics: Why am I the only one who thinked it sucked?" marathon and put this at the top of the queue for a full re-assessment.

I just couldn't get past some character choices and motivations throughout this.  Really had a hard time buying the whole dang thing. But at this point it's been way too long since I've seen it, so I can't argue anything specifically.

Same here!

I'll have to re-watch it one day.

Corndog, maybe I shouldn't say anything, but somehow, I feel obliged to tell you that Cabaret probably wouldn't be in the top spot if I made a new Top 100 list today.

I rewatched it yesterday, and it would still be among my top 20 or so, it's just that I saw a few minor flaws this time, and thus would probably have to push it down a few places. That said, a new Top 100 would look very different from my old one and require a lot of thinking, so that I can't possibly say which film would be #1 instead of Cabaret. Not sure what I'm trying to tell you, your line-up is completely up to you anyway, so keep Cabaret in there for the time being (it is excellent, and I would love to know if you agree), or dump it, or...   :)

I'll keep it and then maybe when the new Top 100s come out I can adjust for everyone again!

Don't worry, 12 Angry Men is hardwired into my top spot. BTW, any timeframe on when your review of it will be coming?
