Get Him to the Greek

I feel weird voting for this since I previously voted for Forgetting Sarah Marshall. But then there's the Jonah Hill factor...

I was just about to ask the same question.

1. Less Selena than I was led to believe
2. I go in to these films with hope they will be good, I go in with the expectation, as I take in to most films, that they will be mediocre.
3. R&B captures an era, it possesses subtext, it's visually interesting, and it's one of the 30 best films of 2010 so far.

It not only exceeded expectations, it has much more depth than a film of its ilk tends to possess.

Wild Grass

Not nearly what you'd expect from the guy who made Hiroshima, mon amour and Last Year at Marienbad in that its quirky and colorful and charming.  Also features the best ending of the year, which is itself a candidate for best surprise.

I Love You Phillip Morris

I have rarely liked Jim Carrey comedies, but this one was a very pleasant surprise.
