Javier Bardem - Before Night Falls
Nicolas Cage - Adaptation
Jeff Daniels - The Squid and the Whale
Johnny Depp - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
Joseph Gordon-Levitt - (500) Days of Summer
Phillip Seymour Hoffman - Capote
Heath Ledger - Brokeback Mountain
John Cameron Mitchell - Hedwig and the Angry Inch
Cillian Murphy - The Wind that Shakes the Barley
Edward Norton - 25th Hour
Jason Patrick - NARC
Sean Penn - Milk
Gordon Pinsent – Away from Her
Mark Ruffalo - You Can Count on Me
Nien-Jen Wu - Yi Yi

I couldn't think of five more performances that I felt compelled to vote for.

What I learned today: Filmspotters are awfully forgiving of comic actors in dramatic roles.

It definitely is one of the finest performances of the decade, and it is such a shame that comparatively few people have seen the film.

I was especially happy to see Javier Bardem in Before Night Falls on your list, another film that should be seen by more people.
