FYC: Best Foreign Language Film
« on: March 24, 2010, 11:14:44 AM »
This post will be updated with any foreign films mentioned in the thread.

Ballots can be found here

By "foreign language" we mean non-English speaking.  The gray area is a film that is definitely a US production but contains mostly subtitles.  We'll try to use common sense, for instance Letters from Iwo Jima is in, Inglourious Basterds is out, for instance.  But common sense can be a nebulous thing!  Let debate special situations as they come up.

When listed them here, I will list them alphabetically by the title by which they are commonly referred to in the US.  For instance Fa Yeung Nin Wa will be mostly known to people as In the Mood for Love, whereas Yi Yi is known to people as Yi Yi.  Please let me know if you think I've got it listed wrong here.

Are we sticking with subtitled films as foreign, or would films from outside the US, or North America, that aren't subtitled be considered foreign as well?

Just subtitled,

Letters From Iwo Jima (2006)
El Laberinto Del Fauno (Pan’s Labyrinth, 2006)
Fa Yeung Nin Wa (In The Mood For Love, 2000)
Sen To Chihiro No Kamikakushi (Spirited Away, 2001)
Yi Yi (Yi Yi: A One And A Two, 2000)
Chinjeolhan Geumjassi (Lady Vengeance, 2005)
Der Untergang (Downfall, 2004)
Låt Den Rätte Komma In (Let The Right One In, 2008)
Tasogare Seibei (The Twilight Samurai, 2002)
Mou Gaan Dou (Infernal Affairs, 2002)
