I fully realize there is a sentiment that Monsters, Inc is "lesser Pixar"...
but if you rewatch you may note that the first 45 minutes of this film is incredibly meticulous in timing, exposition and the execution of humor. It is a masterclass in how to invite someone into a universe in a way that fully grounds you before telling you that YOURS is the confusing and scary world!
Then we have the really clever door/scarefloor thing - you can't argue that greatness - and especially how neatly it gets wrapped up in the end. Speaking of the end, it handles the action sequences in the last reel far better than most all the other Pixar films (notable exception:
The Incredibles).
The film's one great shortfall, the antogonist (the octopus guy - Waternoose?). He is a bit uninspiring. But he given less screen time than I remembered.
Anyways. There's my pitch. Do with it what you may.
