I haven't seen Brief Encounter, but I have to image that the best thing about it is that it inspired The Apartment.

Brief Encounter

Well, it's no Notorious.

Sorry, but Little Children is not even in the same strata as Brief Encounter. And I must say that your criticism of the narration in Brief Encounter loses all relevance when you say that Little Children is better. Little Children has one of the most annoying and distracting narration tracks in the history of film.

The narration in Brief Encounter is really, really bad though. It tells you exactly what is happening on screen, over and over again, I don't need that. I found Brief Encounter to be a well made film, it's quite good, but it's held back because it tries to cast its two leads as sympathetic, but they really aren't, they are pretty darn terrible and I couldn't get past that.

La Strada

8 1/2? More like 10/10!

You are slowly becoming my favorite reviewer here. Love the first paragraph, it's so true.

I'm not a Fellini fan which makes me an outsider to this discussion, but La Strada is my favorite. It's the one film of his I look forward to rewatching.

I think I might like Cabiria a little bit more, but I greatly prefer this Fellini over the Fellini who made 8 1/2.

The Wages of Fear

I'm afraid we are nearing the end of the marathon. (Actually, I'm much more relieved than anything else.)

The Battle of Algiers

Or, as we call it today, The Battle of Libya.
