I really like a lot about Basterds, but I'm sad to say that after a second viewing it hasn't set entirely well with me. The flaws and annoyances I had with it stood out much more, and I couldn't entirely get past them.

So glad this film made the cut. I'm guessing it will be the most recent film to have made it.

Heh, are you considering this revenge for the Filmspot snubbing that it took?

indeed :D

Makes me very curious to know if any of the other 2009 Filmspot nominees made the Top 20 or Top 50?!

I don't suppose my switching a vote from Hurt Locker to IB (as that would be how I'd vote now) would have prevented the abomination that occurred.

Hehe, love ferris' faux mystery tease.

Spirited Away
(Hayao Miyazaki, 2001)

Quote from: Bondo
It is an incomparably wonderful film.

Quote from: 1SO
I like that Miyazaki doesn't just rewrite the rules of fantasy, he writes an entirely new book with characters that bear no marks of an inspirational source.  Everything in this film is a true original, an endless supply of magic straight from the imagination.  And, as it typical with Miyazaki, there are no true heroes and villains.  Everybody has their good and bad qualities.  Nobody else comes close to creating that kind of well-rounded characterization, in any movie outside of a studio Ghibli film ever.

Spirited Away is my all time favorite movie, with none beside it.

So THIS is what a masterpiece looks like! I’m trying to think of an eloquent way to stretch “my jaw was in my lap for two hours” into 3-4 paragraphs!

Quote from: Melvil
It really is a magical movie.

Somehow not even nominated for Best Score at the Oscars. Joe Hisaishi, as usual, is no small part of what makes this film so great.

Yay, me saying positive things about a movie. Now up to 3/6 were on my ballot and I enjoy the other three. This is too good to last.

I can't wait to see Spirited Away again in my Great Directors:Miyazaki marathon (it will be the 6th or 7th viewing).

I think I might have actually voted for Spirited Away...because I have a feeling I'll love it the next time I see it.

So now I've watched the entire Miyazaki catalog except Ponyo.  While so many of his other films have great elements to them, none coalesce his themes, imagination and beauty of his animation like this one.  It is a true Magnum Opus.  Wow.  Spellchecker says I spelled coalesce right on the first try.
