Is Michael Bay an auteur?

I am curious about this.  I got into arguement with someone who said he was a hack because he doesn't make "good" films.  I think there is no doubt that he is auteur.  He has a style and substance that is his own and can't really be replicated.  There are also themes like military fetishism and patriotism that appear in all of his films.

Michael Bay may not make good films most of the time, but he is not at all a hack. And making good films is not a prerequisite for being a distinct auteur, which Bay most definitely is.

Yes. Although I have no business really saying since I've only seen one of his films.

There are plenty of bad Auteurs!

I know. Don't you just hate Truffaut and Hitchcock and Kubrick and Godard and Wong?
