You're insane.

About what? Hercules is terrible.

It's not terrible, but it is just okay.

Nah, it's terrible, like it made me ashamed that the Mouse would put such a product out. It's not even high expectations or anything, it's a movie that starts of bad and gets progressively worse, and I am having a hard time remembering why I ever liked it when I first saw it back in 97.

The memories of James Woods's voice work is probably why you liked it.

It's as good of an explanation as any, because this time through his voicework was the only positive I took away. It really sucks that it isn't any good too, because I consider the Musker/Clements duo to be on par with the greatest animated directors of all time, in that special grouping of Stanton, Luske/Jackson/Geronimi, Stanton, Lasseter, Miyazaki, Takahata, Bird,. Trousdale/Wise and Docter. Yet, off the top of my head they are the only directors in what I consider the top flight group to have ever come out with such a stinker.

It's in no way the worst Disney film. The songs are great, the characters are original and unique, the animation is very slick and the story is a lot of fun. There seems to be an unjust illogical bias on Bill's part.

What bias? I laid out my reasons and they are perfectly valid, if you're going to make a bias claim then back it up, please.  :)

Mulan (1998)

Quote
Based on its placement in the marathon Mulan is a bit of a turning point. Regardless of what you thought of them, the films that preceded Mulan were traditionally animated, at least to the naked eye they were. The films that follow Mulan feature more and more digital animation, and in many cases it is jarring and obvious. I’m sure there is some digital animation in Mulan, but it is a turning point film because it is one of the last films where the digital animation is near impossible to pick out. Mulan is also a turning point film because outside of maybe Lilo & Stitch  very few of the upcoming Disney animated films in the marathon have a female journey as the featured storyline. From The Little Mermaid  to Mulan female characters were more often than not in the lead or their plight was given a considerable amount of weight. For better or worse Disney changed their focus to more of a boys adventure following Mulan.

Nice review, Bill. I mostly agree, although I would put Mulan a lot higher than Pocahontas. Also, for me, the stuff with Mushu does not work. But many of the songs are pretty great, and all of the army sequences are fantastic. And I cry at the end scene every time I see this movie. The father/daughter thing snags my psyche.

I just meant you seemed to hate it before even doing your rewatch. You'd already made up your decision about the film beforehand.

Great Mulan review btw, agree completely.
How you can be so wrong about one movie and so right about another baffles me.  ;)

Poll:
Eddie Murphy as Mushu
or
Eddie Murphy as Donkey
