You're insane.

About what? Hercules is terrible.

It's in no way the worst Disney film. The songs are great, the characters are original and unique, the animation is very slick and the story is a lot of fun. There seems to be an unjust illogical bias on Bill's part.

What bias? I laid out my reasons and they are perfectly valid, if you're going to make a bias claim then back it up, please.  :)

I just meant you seemed to hate it before even doing your rewatch. You'd already made up your decision about the film beforehand.

Actually it's the exact opposite as I said in the review. I had fond memories of Hercules and was looking forward to revisiting it, but man, it did nothing for me, and that sucks because I wanted to like it as I do all those years ago.

And it's always Eddie as Mushu, always.  ;D

Tarzan (1999)

Quote
My brain, heart and maybe even my ass wrestled with Tarzan for a lot longer than I thought I would, or maybe even should. It’s never a good sign when I finish a film and my mind immediately begins checking off what didn’t work. This turn of events led me to believe that Tarzan  was going to fall into the subpar category, but then my mind flashed to the elements that I truly loved. My various body parts were once again failing to grab hold of anything substantive, if you split me in half one of me would proclaim Tarzan a nice little film while the other half would scream that Tarzan was a mess of a picture.

Agree with this, the CGI sequences actually seem to fit in quite well in this film. They look really great.

I think I'm gonna join in to this marathon at Dinosaur or Emperor's New Groove. I haven't even seen Lilo and Stitch which is supposed to be good and I've only seen Atlantis and Treasure Planet once.

Treasure Planet my friend.  :P Lilo & Stitch is very good, provided you like to laugh and have a lot of fun. And all are welcome to join in, I know the marathon is confided to this thread with my name in the title,m but that was due to a lack of participation, not my ego or anything. :)

The Black Cauldron (1985)

Quote
Roger Ebert says that The Black Cauldron is a quest film, and I agree. Where I differ from Mr. Ebert is that the quest didn’t engage me on the same level as it did him. In his well written, like usual, review he raved about the characters and how they drew him into the story. I wish I could say the same, but truth to be told I know that come a month or so from now I won’t be able to tell you a single thing about any of the characters in The Black Cauldron. This is the very definition of a fun film with no lasting impact, and that sucks because it is the type of film I wish would have a lasting impact on me and everyone else who watches it.

Beauty And The Beast (Special Edition, 1991)

Quote
You know that movie watching experience where you say to yourself, “This was a great movie, but there was just one thing…” That sums up Beauty And The Beast and Bill Thompson in a nutshell, because it is a great movie, but there was just this one thing that just so happens to be a pretty big thing. I loved the majority of Beauty And The Beast, looking back on it I am hard pressed to think of many weak moments or instances of inferior film making. But I also know that I can’t put behind me the fact that Beauty And The Beast comes up short in a somewhat important category.

What do you mean the song lyrics don't move the story along?

When I was a lad I ate four dozen eggs
Ev'ry morning to help me get large
And now that I'm grown I eat five dozen eggs
So I'm roughly the size of a barge

 :D

Based on what you posted after that I'll assume you are joking, because I think I explained what I meant in the review proper.  :)

I agree with your review. I just enjoyed the story and the songs much more than you, more than Hunchback as well.

Now that I've seen booth recently it's Hunchback by a wide margin for me. Still, I enjoyed the songs a lot and I liked the story enough, I just didn't feel the narrative was that strong or that when viewed as pushing the narrative the songs didn't do as much as they could have.
