Bill you're not alone with this 2nd take. I watched it last weekend too and while the problems are still there - inc. the lack of balls - I really enjoyed the comedy. Always liked Maximus, but this time I liked Flynn and that all-purpose frying pan. A couple of the songs didn't bother me either, namely the 2 shortest ones. Rapunzel's glow song played well in its many versions, and while I still think Mother knows best is bad Broadway, the reprise "Rapunzel Knows Best" was pretty great.

I had a similar reaction to The Princess and the Frog, which I still think is the better movie.

Princess and the Frog is bad. Tangled is passable, for the reasons stated by 1SO. Tangled disappoints me more though because I watched it and saw so much potential if the makers had had any balls.

I think the opposite, as I stated already. Princess was great, Tangled is better, and the people behind the film had plenty of balls in making a movie about a sadistic passive-aggressive villain.

Yea, I don't think the movie lacks balls, I think it just needed some better writing and music.

I'd say it needed all three. The balls are part of the better writing.

Bill, isn't good to know that you are right and can just remain confident in that rightness?

Fantasia/2000 (1999)

Quote
It feels like it’s been aeons since I watched Fantasia, yet no matter how much time passes that film stays with me. I’ve loved The Great Mouse Detective, laughed heartily at The Emperor’s New Groove, had my jaw drop at the action in Bolt, and every emotion in between. No matter how many films I watch from the Mouse, none have bested Fantasia, it remains to this day not just a personal favorite but the best animated film Disney has ever brought into this world. This works against Fantasia/2000 from the word go, because try as I might I couldn’t shake the feeling that Fantasia/2000 was a vastly inferior version of Fantasia.
