If I had that kind of time, I'd be re-working my master's thesis as I've always intended to. I suppose I could use this as an "in" to that, and look at The Hustler and The Color of Money—I've always wanted to examine that pairing.

But seriously, with two toddlers and one on the way, who has that kind of time?

Spoko, I won't get on you too hard, but seriously 5 paragraphs is all I ask...less if you're so inclined.

Well, I don't mean to go all academic on you again, but the five-paragraph essay is also pretty outdated. I couldn't really say much worth saying in such a short space, I don't think. Certainly not enough to make it worth watching the films over again (especially since I really don't like The Color of Money).

I did that one my first year. The archives felt like giving Paul Newman a good weekend, so they ran them back to back. It's a fantastic double feature.
But for now we are young, let us lay in the sun, count every beautiful thing we can see...

On a cold, rainy afternoon:

Lost in Translation and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

On a morning when you're home sick or "sick":

Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Back to the Future

Outsider heroes:

Yojimbo and Mad Max: Fury Road

Feeling fantastical:

Spirited Away and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

In it for the chatter:

Before Midnight and Clerks

I get the themes, but the pairings are still way weird. I congratulate the mind that is capable of associating Kurosawa with Mad Max.

A marathon feature:

Zatoichi (1962) with Shintaro Katsu as the blind swordsman
Blind Fury (1989) with Rutger Hauer as the blind swordsman
Zatoichi (2003) with Takeshi Kitano as the blind swordsman
Ichi (2008) with Haruka Ayase as the blind musician trained by Zatoichi
