Harry Potter Days!

Today I have for you all a review of Goblet of Fire the book.

Additionally I've got my negative review of Goblet of Fire the movie.

AND I've got a brand-spanking new essay on how I came to be a Harry Potterhead and where Goblet of Fire fits into that story.

Why I Don't Rate Films

I now anticipate Corey giving this the thumbs down.

I don't know what Sam said because he didn't include a rating.

Your article gives a great insight to your approach towards film criticism. I can now see why having no rating works so easily for you. I developed my 4(5) star system back in 1990, and I don't know why I left it for so long. It does give that shorthand, while at the same time clearing up that cloudy issue of recommending a film with a lower star rating, because my system is all about how much I would recommend the film to others. If all you're going to read is my star rating, then you know I recommend anything 3 stars or more.

This was a lot more painful than watching The Postman, which is saying a lot:

It's still making a type of assessment, "film X > film Y" kind of thing.

I'm just being pedantic for fun, though.  I know what you're getting at.  I've struggled a lot with my rating system too, but I've been doing it so long now it would be weird to just stop.  Besides, I love making lists (you don't say!) and it helps with that.  I guess it's also because I'm so insecure about my reviews that I don't blame people for wanting to just skip ahead to the score.
