I do not think I will able to do this list. :-\

??? There is like over a month left

I know, but I do not think I'd be able to come up with a list.

Make a top 5, if that works out a top 10 etc.

Here's my list.

EDIT: I just saw the other thread, where I am supposed to post this list.  I'll nip on over there and post it then, shall I?

I basically asked myself, "If I knew this director was in charge of a film, how likely am I to watch it, just based on that?"  Thus, Woody Allen and Alfred Hitchcock-- excellent directors, both-- won't make my list.  I'm neither more or less likely to watch a film on their names alone.   These are the only directors I can think of that would get me watching their film simply based on their name and what I've already seen of their films.  It also means they have a distinctive style that I recognize and appreciate.

1.   Hayao Miyazaki
2.   Krzysztof Kieslowski
3.   Joel and Ethan Coen
4.   Quentin Tarantino
5.   Akira Kurosawa
6.   Gus Van Sant
7.   Andrew Stanton
8.   Terry Gilliam
9.   Christopher Nolan
10.   James Cameron
11.   Paul Greengrass
12.   Spike Jonze
13.   Roman Polanski
14.   M. Night Shaymalan
15.   Robert Rodriguez
16.   Francis Ford Coppola
17.   Powell and Pressburger
18.   Frank Capra
19.   Richard Linklater
20.   Wong Kar-Wai
21.   Steven Spielberg
22.   Michael Heneke
23.   Charlie Chaplain
24.   Robert Altman
25.   Mira Nair
26.   Howard Hawks
27.   Spike Lee
28.   Fredrico Fellini
29.   Buster Keaton
30.   Billy Wilder
31.   Katheryn Bigalow
32.   Stanley Kubrick
33.   John Lasseter
34.   Tim Burton
35.   Orson Welles
36.   Werner Herzog
37.   David Lynch
38.   Kelly Reichart
39.   Steven Soderbergh
40.   Sergio Leone
41.    Brad Bird

Given how highly you rated Rear Window your choice to leave the fat man out, though obviously your own and respect to that, seems strange, but what do I know I have a Miyazaki shaped hole in my heart. I suspect there are other Miyazaki deniers out there they just aren't brave enough to man up and admit it.

I think one of the reasons I love Rear Window so much is because all the other Hitchcock I've seen that have been meh.   I haven't seen Annie Hall, so it might be that I will truly love that one as well, but it won't change my opinion about Woody Allen in general.

Miyazaki has a strangeness that deeply touches me.  I can't expect that for everyone.  :'(

You know that wasn't a criticism, I have no idea why I don't get the Miya......but Marshall MacClune definitely thinks you need to see Annie Hall (one reason to see it, the gag in the queue at the theatre is probably my favourite gag in any film ever! After 'Igor get the bags')

People who don't put Malick on their lists can no longer be considered my friends.  :P
