I have also given up sticking with 1 country of origin per film - if Cannes can accept 2 (or 3 or 4) so can I.

I only started today. Got it down to a list of 137, hopefully I can narrow that down to 100 by tomorrow.

138 now. Forgot about ZAZ.

Oh 'Noke, people who consider ZAZ films are deluded, prizing successions of increasingly desperate, hollow gags over true character-based comedy. Except for The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear, which is a work of genius.

Be careful with your words flieger. Heat doesn't have to be in consideration for long.  ;)

Woohoo! This means Miami Vice is a lock!

Spent a few minutes comparing my ballot this year to last year:

Top 3 new films (not on last year's ballot):
5. Watchmen
11. Deep Water
12. Glengarry Glen Ross

Top 3 risers:
37. Tremors (+59)
26. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (+54)
18. Spartan (+53)

Top 3 Fallers:
89. Joy Luck Club (-73)
86. Barry Lyndon (-61)
52. Princess Mononoke (-47)

Top 3 films on last year's ballot not appearing this year:
Ray (was #10)
JFK (was #15)
LOTR: TTT (was #21) - Only because I limited myself to one movie per series

I like how huge the margins are!  I do the same.  JFK dropping from 15 to off is pretty impressive.  (It's like #24 on my ballot I think?)
"And if thou refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all thy borders with frogs" - Exodus 8:2 KJV

They're not deluded. They laugh at what they find funny while knowing there is a difference between the two.

I bet as soon as I rewatch it I'll be looking for a place to add it back in. I just didn't get around to it this year. :(

It really is just the most arbitrary thing ever, isn't it?

I keep sitting here going, is Solaris better than All That Heaven Allows? Is The Gleaners and I better than Mysterious Skin? And tomorrow, my answer would be totally different.
