Last time we did top 20, let me tell you, there was not a huge amount of overlap, there were many books that received only one vote.  If you expanded to more books, you may get more repeats, not sure.

Yes, that would likely happen. Would they be more of the high-school reading list, though? Is that a bad thing?

I don't think that is necessarily a bad thing.  I loved a lot of the books I had to read in high school.

The list was pretty much a high school reading list. These were the top 6.

1. The Great Gatsby
2. 1984
3. Crime and Punishment
4. The Lord of the Rings
5. The Catcher in the Rye
6. To Kill a Mockingbird

I agree. There is a reason they teach those. But if we get Lord of the Flies on this I'm gonna quit. Same for Heart of Darkness.

If 20 is too few, then 10 is too few.  50 is definitely too many.  So 30 or 40.  If 40, then I say any writing should be allowed, ie plays, monographs, poetry etc as well as books of fiction and non-fiction.

Personally, I still like 20 though I see the problem of little overlap with this number.

We could consider a large number, like 50 and only rank the Top 10.  Isn't that how we did the Top Films of the Decade?

Just list every book you've ever read . . . EVER

I chose 30. I could get to 30 if I made some very difficult decisions.

The list was pretty much a high school reading list. These were the top 6.

1. The Great Gatsby
2. 1984
3. Crime and Punishment
4. The Lord of the Rings
5. The Catcher in the Rye
6. To Kill a Mockingbird

None of these will be on my list.
