Wow, Russell Crowe must've showed some kinda depth in L.A. Confidential to make your list twice. :)

33      Kevin Spacey      The Usual Suspects
   48      Robert Shaw      Jaws
52      Jeff Bridges    The Big Lebowski
53      Alec Baldwin      Glengarry Glen Ross
57      Jack Lemmon      Glengarry Glen Ross
58      Bruce Lee      Enter the Dragon
   59      Denzel Washington      Training Day
70      Walter Matthau      The Taking of Pelham 123
71      Andy Serkis      The Two Towers
82      John Cameron Mitchell      Hedwig & the Angry Inch
98      Edward Norton      American History X

Of the performances I've seen there's many that I'll be considering for my own list. Good stuff

Haha error corrected (he was dangling me out of a window)

I wouldnt participate in a performances list personally.

While I love a lot of non-English movies, I dont feel remotely qualified to compare performances where the tones and idiosyncracies of speech are reduced to subtitles. Seeing people that Ive seen in a dozen performances (Ullman, Mifune, Gabin) makes it a little easier, but still.

And even in great translations, some things are lost as well.  Dialogue translation doesn't take care of cultural details present through story setting, character action (for example, a customary action), etc. that aren't apparent to or register with a person not of that culture.  Does that stop you from ranking non-English language movies in lists or evaluating them in some fashion with English language films?  List-making doesn't imply authority or qualification.  Just list what you love, what you find utterly convincing despite the language barrier.

Remember those performance by decade lists we started a while ago, where the heck are those? Also, pix made a bunch of performance polls (I think), I can't find those either. It'd be cool to have that stuff linked to in an index because there were a lot of good ideas in there.

My search attempts this afternoon have been met with 404s.  :(

Thanks, GC151. I also found these lists that you might want to add:

Top performances of the 1950s
Top performances of the 1960s
Top performances of the 1970s
Top performances of the 1980s
Top performances of the 1990s
Top performances of the 2000s

They've been added.....I still hope that people just don't stick to these. Broaden your horizons and make your own personal lists.

I think Filmspotters make the lists they want to make, these links are just a good resource for people who want to do a little homework. Thanks again for putting them in the first post.

Some people posted their list submissions here for 'Noke's similar project that fell through last year.  The thread also has some nice little discussions if I remember correctly.
