What a mesmerising film. Not something that I would ever have chosen to watch, but I would have missed something had I not!
A tale of revenge, and more; Ichikawa conjured up an intricate visual feast. I loved the way the old and new was melded; the acting throughout was superb and the music was brilliant. The colour, the stylised movement and the overall feel were just intoxicating. It reminded me a lot of Shakespeare, especially in its mutterings.
I had to get up to answer the door and I was so peed off that I had been interrupted
1 hour and 48 minutes well-spent. Have just ordered Kokoro and Alone Across The Pacific.
Unfortunately The Burmese Harp and Fires On The Plain not available as yet...
