A Swedish Love Story (En kärlekshistoria) is perhaps my favourite domestic (swedish) movie of all time.
Possibly a perfect movie. It really affect's me every time I watch it. And it was his feature debut too.
It says so much about swedish society of that time period and the generation divide in quite a subtle way.
The acting is fantastic. The cinematography and music is beautiful.
I also love the dry humor in it, although it is not as weird and absurd as in his latest movies.
I haven't really seen Gilliap but wan't too. Saw parts of it when I was young. Seemed very dark, very 70ties swedish.
The vicious critical reception of that movie made Andersson unfortunately quit the movie business for almost 25 years.
I like and admire Song's from the Second Floor, which is almost exclusively shot at his own self-built, self-financed film studio.
It sure does have a distinct personal style. Can't say I totally love it tough.
You, the Living was OK. It was funny. But I thought his style was starting to wear a bit thin at this point. It wasn't as deep as his previous movies.
Very interested about Roy Anderssons next project. He has said that he wants to change his style a bit for this one. We'll just have to see.
