Either he meant to say After Life or he meant to say worst.

Been reading through here, trying to get a read on Koreeda. Shoplifters was my #1 film of 2018, but it's the only Koreeda I've seen. What are the next 2-3 I should hit to work myself into his style before I tackle his larger body of work?

Id start with After Life, which was something of his breakthrough, and then watch his best film, Nobody Knows. (And maybe pair the former with Rebels of the Neon God, if Sam approves your taking over his Far East Bracket matchup!)

I've only seen one Still Walking and it was an amazing film. I'm glad you posted in this thread, because after I wrote my review on it, I said I was going to do some exploring of his films, which I haven't done. I need to remedy that. Here's my review...

Masterpiece (100-91) | Classic (90-80) | Entertaining (79-69) | Mediocre (68-58) | Cinemuck (57-21) | Crap (20-0)

I have now seen all of Kore-eda's narrative feature-length films. I love nearly all of them. After Life might end up #1 in time, but Shoplifters is the original for me, and still the best right now.

1. Shoplifters
2. After Life
3. Our Little Sister
4. I Wish

5. The Third Murder
6. Distance
7. Nobody Knows
8. Like Father, Like Son
9. After the Storm
10. Air Doll
11. Maborosi
12. Still Walking
13. Hana

14. The Truth

BTW, saw your review Antares. Still Walking is fantastic and yet...I think you'll find there's so much more to discover!

Can't wait to see Broker. Kore-eda one of my favourite working directors. I find it so difficult to rank the films of his I've seen, as they are of such high quality. His balance of emotional family drama and arthouse poignancy is so on the nose. His weakest film that I've seen is probably 8/10 !

Today I'd go with the following but it may be different tomorrow:

Nobody Knows
I Wish
Maborosi
Shoplifters
After Life
Air Doll
Like Father, Like Son
Still Walking
Our Little Sister
The Third Murder
