I forget, what is the nurse's reveal?
She switched the babies on purpose because of problems she was having with her husband's children.

Huh. Don't remember that at all. What was she trying to accomplish?

From the subtitles:
"The Nonomiyas seemed very happy with their son. I did it on purpose. I had a lot of problems raising my husband's children. I vented my frustration on other people's children. The Nonomiyas had the most expensive home of the lot. She told me her husband was working for a big company. Her family was coming to see her all the time. In comparison with her, I had nothing."

I had forgotten, everyone in that movie really is garbage. Except for the awesome kid. He's tops.

"I heard what you were saying! You know nothing of my work!" (Annie Hall).

The film asks you to experience, not to judge. These are people, who sometimes make regrettable decisions and have to grow over the course of the film. You may think they're all garbage, but I think they're doing the best they can with a bad situation being flawed human beings who are not equipped to handle it. Also, if they were all nice and positive and always made the right choices the film would be flat and have little reason to exist.

"I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul." (Billy Madison, full quote redacted out of politeness.)

They don't make bad decisions, they make all the bad decisions. The movie is a succession of terrible decisions that hurt children over and over until someone finally comes to their senses at the end. But I am being unfair. There is mostly one person making the worst decisions, everyone else is just too weak to stand up to him. I reserve myself the right to judge people's character.
