I've only seen Rome, Open City, but it's one of the best films ever made.

Watch Generale della Rovere, its better!

I love that movie, one of my all time favorite performances.
I’ve lied to men who wear belts. I’ve lied to men who wear suspenders. But I’d never be so stupid as to lie to a man who wears both a belt and suspenders.

I haven't seen any at all.
-Le Chiffre: You changed your shirt, Mr Bond. I hope our little game isn't causing you to perspire.

-James Bond: A little. But I won't consider myself to be in trouble until I start weeping blood.

Rome Open City Roberto Rossellini, 1945'

Ostensibly the birthplace of neorealism, this was actually much more melodramatic than anything I had anticipated. Rossellini took it to the streets and all, but the very basic material is still all sorts of amped up and riveting. It's a film of two halves: the first all hiding and secrets and fear, spread out over several days, climaxing with a whopper of a scene, that's as shocking as anything I've ever seen in a movie; the second part is all methods, torture and self-sacrifice. It all works on so many levels, too: genuinely thrilling at parts (reminded me of Battle of Algiers), on a character level (the camaraderie between the communists), on a roujinesque level (weirdo lesbian seductions based on drug use?). This was exciting and awesome. Looking forward to more Rossellini.
