Confession Time: Bottom 10 Films Others Love
« on: October 20, 2010, 08:52:12 PM »
Apologies to Strongbad

This is where one divides the real friends from those just feigning friendship.  If I hate a film you love, will you still speak civilly to me?

1. The Piano-- My most hated movie of all time.  I get angry just thinking about the film.
2. Pleasantville-- The worst preachy movie I've ever seen.
3. Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian-- I don't think it got a single scene right.  And they continue to let this story-murderer do the other books?
4. Dan in Real Life-- I cringed throughout this whole movie.  They couldn't do anything right, and they were so stupid about it.
5. Eraserhead-- Incomprehensible and ugly.
6. A Fish Called Wanda-- Just not funny.  And they tried so hard.
7. Happy Together-- What an ugly relationship.
8. The Wild-- A really boring remake of Madagascar.  Wow, that is so pathetic.
9. Rambo: First Blood Part II-- The Vietnam war was bad enough.
10. Robin Hood-- I am really sorry, Corndog, but I just don't see anything in this film.

Honorable mentions (movies I didn't hate, but I didn't like):
Fanny and Alexander
Nosferatu
Happy Gilmore
Terms of Endearment
Tombstone

Now, who will be as bold as I?  Who will stand with me in the outcast corner?  Will YOU post your bottom 10?

Didn't you notice?  "Sex of any kind is so good it colorizes you, no matter who else you hurt".  Not exactly in those words, but still.

What? I just thought it was about people learning to live for what makes them happy. Sex can be one of those things. By that token it's also a film about extreme social and sexual repression and how it stifles our growth as human beings.

I'm not sure how to approach this list exactly. I feel like I'll just end up saying "it's boring" or "it's confusing and unstructured" for everything. I mean, Scary Movie 2 is one of the truly worst films I've seen but I wouldn't call it well loved. I'd use the FS100 to highlight loved ones but maybe that'd be passe?

1. Citizen Kane - So boring
2. Seven Samurai - So boring I couldn't finish it...twice.
3. There Will Be Blood - Seriously people, how can you not think Daniel Day Lewis' performance here is one of the worst in film history. It is the hammiest, most over the top piece of nonsense ever and completely brings down whatever quality the film might otherwise posses.
4. 8 1/2 - What the hell is going on?
5. Sunrise - So boring
6. Sunset Boulevard - So boring
7. In A Lonely Place - Why do people who don't like each other stick around each other so much?
8. M - So boring
9. Duck Soup - Criminally unfunny. Oh look, you cut his tie with scissors and set his hat on fire, that's funny. Oh wait, no, it isn't funny, you're just an arse.

And having run out of Top 100 films I gave 1 star to, for good measure:
10. Where The Wild Things Are - So boring

Well, Bondo, eight out of ten of these are in my top 50.  But I can still talk to you... in a little bit.

:D

My list would look and sound much like Bondo's.

Yeah, that NEVER EVER happens in real life.
