1. The Original Star Wars Trilogy - A boring franchise with outdated FX, horrendous scripts and stories, terrible performances, and just all around boring.
2. The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy - Another boring trilogy that is overly long with plot holes you can easily spot that would completely discount most of the story from happening.
3. The Matrix - An overstuffed CGI fest that completely turned me off.
4. The Seven Samurai - A film that would be great had it been an hour shorter and more tamed, realistic performances.
5. The Sixth Sense - A drull, lifeless (pardon the pun) film that totally relies on its out of left field ending for the film, and the ending, for me, does not work.
6. Superbad - Just because you are crude does not mean you are funny.
7. Slumdog Millionaire - A cliche ridden story where its formula gets really annoying after 20 minutes, plus a completely stupid and unnecessary ending.
8. No Country For Old Men - Yawn.
9. Alien - See above comment.
10. Gladiator - Why are they British? And why are they yelling so much? And why do I care? Oh, I don't.

So... you don't like Ridley Scott or trilogies?

1. The Original Star Wars Trilogy - outdated FX

Does this really factor into it though? You like 2001 and Ghostbusters... their effects are just as outdated.

I completely disagree with that 2001 statement. As for Ghostbusters, I think the FX still work in the context of the film.

What's to disagree with? The effects ARE out of date. Period. They look great, but if they remade the film today they would not use the same methods to achieve them. And that's why I ask, what does it matter how out of date the Star Wars effects are?

Especially when the effects in Empire aren't out of date and could be put up against any effects being done today and it would be hard to tell the difference in the films.

Well, practical and optical effects hold up better. CGI has been improving dramatically - so much so that CGI-intensive films from 10 years ago (Armageddon for example) look incredibly cheesy and fake today.

1) Elephant/Paranoid Park-  Not sure which one I was more disinterested in; found both kind of pretentious and interminable, despite the relatively short running times.  Was a little disappointed when Matty named Elephant his best of the decade; have no problem with and can understand others liking these films, but #1 of the decade?  Come on!
2) Where the Wild Things Are- Know this was pretty divisive- I was on the extreme end of the 'hated it' side.
3) Man on Wire- Big documentary fan, thought I would love this one going in... not sure what all the hype was about.  Was not a fan of the reenactments.
4) L’Enfant- Would also include the Dardenne brothers' Lorna's Silence among recent disappointments; don't mind slow, depressing films when done right, but just didn't find these stories engaging enough to compensate for what I found to be unlikable characters and drab landscapes... don't mind unlikable characters, but found the characters in these films somewhat irritating and uninteresting to watch.
5) Punch-Drunk Love- There Will Be Blood in my Top 10 of the Decade, Punch-Drunk Love may be my #1 most overrated.
6)  Strangers on a Train- Seemed ridiculously dated to me when I watched it (yet the more dated aspects of most of Hitchcock's other films don't normally bother me that much).
7) The 400 Blows- Kind of dozed through much of it; having not seen much Truffaut, was glad that I liked Jules and Jim quite a bit on a recent viewing.
8) Grave of the Fireflies- Went in really wanting to love this due to all the FS love, but was pretty sure high expectations/relative apathy towards animated features would lead to disappointment; I was right!
9) The Deer Hunter- Not sure what the overall opinion of the film is among the FS listenership, but know I checked my watch pretty much every scene not involving Russian roulette.
10) Taxi Driver- Don't dislike it, but far and away my least favorite of Scorcese's major films.

So many wounds, I knew many of them would be coming, but still they hurt.

Comments first:

7. In A Lonely Place - Why do people who don't like each other stick around each other so much?

Yeah, that NEVER EVER happens in real life.

Isn't that what forums are for.

Dr Strangelover

Is that the porno version?

I think I'm the only person who loves Day Watch.
Don't you forget about me.

I enjoy it also, along with Night Watch. Where is Twilight Watch?

Ok, time to get some off my chest. I will not say I 'hate' these films, too strong a word, just find the love for them, unjustified, well I can not see it and refuse to listen to any justification.

2001 - Wake me up when its over, major advancements in SFX aside, yawn
Barry Lyndon - Also wake me up when its over
Signs - The last MNS film I have seen, I dread the thought that those after this film are worse.
Syndromes and Century - just did not work

That's it for now

They aren't. Signs is his worst film (starting with Sixth Sense and at least until Airbender which I've not seen).

Bill is dead on.  There are so many Effects shots in Empire that are perfectly seamless I guarantee you've never noticed them.  And most of them are still more realistic looking than modern CGI.  Especially the snow stuff.

The Double Life of Veronique: Yeah, I'm sure this "mood" based, more avant garde style of film is a perfectly valid direction of film fans, but I like plot first and character second, mood last, and that is at least as valid. This prioritizes things the opposite of how I prefer them.

Well, I can honestly say that there is only one movie that I absolutely despise:

The Longest Day- Such a good cast that just stands around for 2 1/2 hrs and talks about "What we're gonna do"

I would agree that films like:

Scarface

Casino

Top Gun

Are all extremely overrated.

I think most of Spielberg's work since Saving Private Ryan has been C- grade at best.
