Every one that I have seen was excellent, but I have only seen three. Yet another poll where I'd rather not cast a vote.
-Le Chiffre: You changed your shirt, Mr Bond. I hope our little game isn't causing you to perspire.

-James Bond: A little. But I won't consider myself to be in trouble until I start weeping blood.

Kanal and Ashes and Diamonds are masterpieces.  Promised Land is also great.

Kanal and Ashes and Diamonds are masterpieces.

Both are in my top 100. That Criterion box is so great. A Generation isn't quite at the level of those two but is still very good. Definitely need to see more from him.

So I should start with Kanal and Ashes and Diamonds? Which one would be a better first?

I've only seen A Generation and Kanal, but I liked both of them. I'm looking forward to seeing more of his films.

I've only seen Tatarak (Sweet Rush), and I found it to be interesting but not particularly enjoyable. It felt like the sort of film that I'd watch for a film class and then promptly forget about. The consensus here seems to be that Kanal is good -- should I give it a try, or is Wajda probably not for me?

Watch Kanal, if you like it follow up with Ashes and Diamonds. Careful, there is an awful DVD transfer of Kanal circulating.
