I remember seeing Gypsy, but if I have seen any of the others it would have been a long time ago.

East Side, West Side
* * *

This is one where I'm glad I went in cold. (Even the IMDB genre list is a Spoiler.) I selected it for the stars. Barbara Stanwyck and James Mason are a married couple. Ava Gardner and Cyd Charisse - who look remarkably alike - are two women who get tangled in the marriage, as does Van Heflin as a former cop turned war hero. The cast extends out to Gale Sondergaard, William Conrad, William Frawley and Nancy Reagan.

The characters and their personal wants twist this thing around like a pretzel, without ever being hard to follow. Ulterior motives, deception, and emotions boiling over. I really enjoyed wondering where this was going and the cast is sensational. The lower rating is because once it gets to the breaking point, things wrap up with surprising simplicity, but if you're a fan of this cast, this is one well worth checking out.
