His screwball comedies deserve a higher profile.  Midnight and Easy Living rank up there with the best of Hawks, Sturges and Capra.  I have a couple other films of his lying around here that I really need to watch.

1. Midnight
2. Remember the Night
3. Easy Living
4. No Man of Her Own
5. The Mating Season
6. Death Takes a Holiday

I recently graded Death Takes a Holiday a C+ and Remember the Night a C. The others I've seen (Midnight and Easy Living, for sure) were good, but I don't remember them well enough to vote for.

Just finished a Leisen/Stanwyck double feature and you're crazy, pix, Remember the Night is fantastic.  No Man of Her Own is pretty good too.

Remember the Night Mitchell Leisen, 1940

Stanwyck is a gal in trouble. She's just been nabbed for shoplifting. McMurray is the lawyer who's gonna put her in jail. Instead, he gets the case postponed until the holidays. Somehow, thru movie magic, Stanwyck is released from jail for the holidays, and McMurray gets stuck with her. He's heading back to Indiana and he takes her along cuz that's where she's from, too. Oh, it's a Christmas movie, didn't ya know? Stanwyck is nothing short of fantastic in this film. Her life has been nothing but tough business, so she's made due. The film's emotional lynchpin is the Christmas dinner scene, where Stanwyck just sits back quietly and watches this really close family do nothing but display tons of affection for each other and then when they start including her, it just broke my heart. It reminded me of Christmases long ago. . . Quite a wonderful movie, really.

Wow - can't wait to catch this as soon as the holiday season rolls around.

Thanks roujin!
Kevin: Yes, why does there have to be evil?

Supreme Being: I think it has something to do with free will.

Verna: I suppose you think you raised hell.

Tom: Sister, when I've raised hell you'll know it.
