Filmspotters' Top 100 Documentaries: FYC and Your Lists
« on: November 08, 2010, 10:55:43 PM »
I'm going to get the ball rolling on this. I wanted to get this thread up just so people can start thinking of documentaries they might include on their ballots. Vote in the poll, I want to get an idea of how many films people would feel they can include on their list before they exhaust the films they strongly support.

Filmspotting Top 100 Documentaries Rules:
1. The shortlist was determined by submitted ranked ballots.
2. Go to this page and rate all the shortlist films you have seen on a 1-10 scale.
3. You have until the end of the day on April 22nd, 2011 to submit your rankings form.
4. Final Top 100 will be determined by weighted average rating, which is a function of how many people rate (have seen) each film.
5. Results will be presented (Date TBD)

Thanks!

Preliminary list, subject to extreme re-jiggering:

5. The Emperor's Naked Army Marches On

Keep hearing vague good things about this one.
I’ve lied to men who wear belts. I’ve lied to men who wear suspenders. But I’d never be so stupid as to lie to a man who wears both a belt and suspenders.

I think top 30 is a good number like the books list.

That would probably work. Basically what I'm shooting for ultimately is, given low to moderate overlap, a number large enough that at least 150 films get nominated but small enough that the most widely seen docs don't just crowd out everything else by being (low) on everyone's list.

If you want to hear specific good things, my review is here.

Is Gimme Shelter somewhere in the next 100?

Yes, and rather high in the next 100.

I think top 30 is a good number like the books list.

Ooh, I'd hate to narrow my list down to 30.  What's wrong with 100?
