Just curious but have you seen The Beaches of Agnes. Having not seen either film, I'm sure I'm off base but that is a look back on Agnes Varda's career directed by and starring Varda. So I think the single-minded approach can work, it just depends. I wonder if Beaches suffers from a similar narrow focus.
I don't think that's true of Beaches
at all. Varda is genuinely interested in other people and a lot of Beaches
is focused on other people she's loved/admired/encountered in her life as well as locations that hold a special meaning. Oh, and the central role that art and filmmaking have played in her life. I'd love to hear your take on it (both Sam and 1SO).
Caveat: I haven't watched the Reifenstahl film.
